New Delhi, January 8
A Delhi court will deliver its verdict on January 21 in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots murder case against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar. This case is related to the alleged killing of two persons in Saraswati Vihar area during the riots.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, postponing the decision on Wednesday, has fixed January 21 as the next date. Sajjan Kumar, who is currently lodged in Tihar Central Jail, appeared before the court through video conferencing.
The court reserved judgment on 1 November 1984 after hearing final arguments in the case related to the murder of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh. In this regard, Punjabi Bagh police registered a case, but later the Special Investigation Team took over its action.
On 16 December 2021, the court framed charges against Kumar. According to the prosecution, a large mob armed with deadly weapons carried out massive looting, arson and destruction of Sikh property to avenge the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The prosecution alleged that the mob attacked the house of the complainant Jaswant Singh’s wife, killed her husband and their son, besides looting the property and setting the house on fire.-News-Patiala
