The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has detected two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka. The Union Health Ministry gave this information today.
The three-month-old girl complained of ‘bronchopneumonia’ and was admitted to Baptist Hospital in Bangalore, where she was diagnosed with HMPP, the ministry said. He has already been discharged from the hospital.
An eight-month-old child suffering from ‘bronchopneumonia’ was admitted to Baptist Hospital on January 3, after which tests revealed that he was suffering from HMPV. It is said that the child’s health is now improving.
The ministry said that it is important to note that both the patients have no history of international travel. The Ministry emphasized that HMPV infection is already spreading in many countries including India and cases of related respiratory diseases have been reported in various countries.
Further, based on available data from ICMR and Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) network, it is found that the number of cases of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) or Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SRI) in the country No abnormal growth has occurred.
The ministry said it is monitoring the situation through all available surveillance channels and the ICMR will monitor trends in HMPV infection throughout the year. The World Health Organization is already providing timely updates on the situation in China to provide more information on infection prevention measures. The Ministry said that the recent preparations across the country show that India is prepared to deal with any possible increase in respiratory diseases and that public health measures can be implemented immediately if needed. -News-Patiala
