NEW DELHI: A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 16-year-old girl over two dozen times in the Shahbad Dairy area of Delhi on Sunday night.
The accused was arrested from Bulandshahr, said Delhi Police.
After stabbing the girl, the accused, Sahil(20), kicked her several times and then picked up a cement block and bludgeoned her. This happened even as locals and residents passed through the lane several times.

A CCTV footage of the incident also went viral on social media, which shows the accused constantly hitting her.

In the video, it can be seen that a few seconds later, after taking a pause, he returns and picks up a cement block to batter her. Police stated that they received a call almost 30-35 minutes after the incident.

Ravi Kumar Singh, DCP, Outer North said, “The beat staff received an information about the murder of a 16-year old girl identified as Sakshi around 9.30pm on Sunday. A team of police reached the location to enquire the matter. The victim was found dead on the street. Later, it came to fore that she was coming from another lane when Sahil intercepted her and stabbed her multiple times”.
Singh further added that Sahil and Sakshi were in a relationship but had a quarrel on Sunday.

“The deceased was going for her friend’s son’s birthday party when Sahil saw her and stabbed her multiple times and hit her with a stone. Sahil is absconding and the search is under way to nab him. A case of murder has been registered at Shahbad Dairy police station on the complaint of the deceased’s father,” added the DCP.
Meanwhile, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed grief over the incident.

“A minor girl has been brutally murdered openly in Delhi. This is very sad and unfortunate. The criminals have become fearless, there is no fear of the police. LG sir, law and order is your responsibility, do something. The safety of the people of Delhi is of paramount importance,” tweeted Kejriwal.
Reacting on the incident, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal said that the national capital has become extremely unsafe for women and girls.
She said, “A 16-year-old girl was stabbed 40-50 times and then was hit by a stone multiple times after which she died. All this has been captured on CCTV. Several people saw this but did not pay heed. Delhi has become extremely unsafe for women and girls. I appeal to the central govt to call a high-level meeting with Union HM, Delhi LG, DCW chief and Delhi CM.”
