LUCKNOW: A 73-year-old retired DG shot himself using his licensed revolver at his Gomtinagar residence in Lucknow on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as DK Sharma.
Police said that Sharma had retired in 2010.
Additional DCP, East Zone, Syed Abbas Ali, said that a suicide note was also recovered from the spot which read, “I am committing suicide as I am unable to handle anxiety disorder and health and nobody should be held responsible for it”.
Ali said that Sharma had locked himself in a room and shot himself, hearing the gunshot, other family members, and his son rushed and found him in a pool of blood. Later the police were informed.
Soon after his demise, the whole UP IPS fraternity expressed shock and offered condolences at his sudden demise. Senior police officers reached his residence to express solidarity with the family.
Additional director general of police, security, Binod Singh, said that DK Sharma was a very lively officer and had a sportsman spirit. “He had served at many important districts as superintendent of police and IG,” said Singh.
