JODHPUR: Police on Saturday arrested a man for killing his wife in Mata ka Than area.

The victim was former president of Mahila Morcha of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP).
The accused locked the door and sat beside his wife’s body throughout the night. He opened the door when police arrived on Saturday afternoon. According to the police, Ramesh Beniwal (35) and his wife Suman had been married for 15 years.

They had shifted to their current address about a year back. Their children stay in a hostel for study.
“Around Friday midnight, the couple had an argument over some issue and in a fit of rage, Ramesh battered his wife’s head with a stone,” said DCP (East) Amrita Duhan.
“After killing his wife, Ramesh called up his brother-in-law in Osian confessing the murder. The brother-in-law informed his relatives in Jodhpur. They all rushed to to the couple’s house but Ramesh refused to open the door,” said police.
Finally, when landlord of the house called the police, Ramesh opened the door.
“He was sitting beside the body of his wife. We arrested him immediately and recovered the stone used for killing Suman,” said Duhan, adding that the couple had arguments frequently. Police said that accused’s brother-in-law said that he had called him up at about 2am saying that he had killed his wife as she did not serve him meal when he came home late at night. Ramesh has a timber business and would visit Jodhpur once in 2-3 months, while Suman previously worked at a petrol pump and joined RLP later.
