A spokesperson of the Chhipa Welfare Association provided more details in a statement on Tuesday, confirming that volunteers found five additional bodies in different areas of Karachi.
“Three of them were seemingly drug addicts, however, not a single body was identified so far,” the spokesperson said.
The organisation, which operates a network of ambulances in the city, reported that the total number of unidentified bodies has reached 22. Nearly all of these bodies remain unclaimed, as no relatives have come forward to claim them.
One contributing factor to these deaths is the ongoing heatwave in Karachi, which has led to numerous cases of heatstroke and hospital admissions.
Azeem Khan, an official from another humanitarian organisation Edhi Foundation corroborated that most of the deceased were drug addicts who succumbed to severe heat while under the influence of drugs. He noted that over a dozen unidentified persons were found dead across various locations in Karachi.
