NEW DELHI: Delhi Rouse Court reserved its order on chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, whose three-day custody with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concluded on Saturday.
Kejriwal was arrested by CBI on Wednesday in connection with the liquor policy case. CBI, having requested five days of remand to confront him with evidence, was granted three.
CBI has claimed that Kejriwal’s custody was needed to present him with documents related to the case and alleged that Kejriwal implicated former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, attributing the idea of privatisation to him.Kejriwal has refuted these claims in court, asserting both his innocence and that of other AAP leaders, including Sisodia.
“I am innocent, and so are the other AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia,” Kejriwal had said in court. “I deny putting the blame on Sisodia. The CBI is manipulating media headlines to falsely portray my involvement.”
In addition to this case, Kejriwal also in Tihar jail concerning his alleged role in a money laundering case investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Delhi liquor policy case involves accusations of irregularities in the 2021-22 excise policy. These include modifications, undue favours to licensees, and the extension of L-1 licences without prior approval.
CBI is focusing on corruption charges, while the ED probes the money laundering aspect.
