NEW DELHI: At least 27 people were killed in stampede during a ‘satsang‘ (religious gathering) in Uttar Pradesh‘s Hathras on Tuesday. The police said the stampede occurred due to overcrowding.
Chief medical officer (CMO) Etah, Umesh Kumar Tripathi said 27 bodies were brought at the post-mortem house, comprising 25 women and 2 men, while many injured people have been admitted to local hospitals for treatment.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the stampede. He instructed officials to reach the accident site and carry out relief measures.

A team consisting of ADG Agra and Aligarh Commissioner has been constituted to enquire into the cause of the incident, an official source said.
Local officials and emergency responders are on the scene, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
