NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal strongly denounced Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal on Wednesday for her post expressing “relief” at the release of Bibhav Kumar, who was accused of assaulting Maliwal.
Sunita Kejriwal had shared a picture of Bibhav Kumar, captioning it as “day of relief,” which prompted Maliwal’s strong reaction.

“The chief minister’s wife, who was at home when I was being beaten up, is feeling very relieved,” Swati Maliwal said in a post on X.
“Relieved because the man who beat me and misbehaved with me in his house has been released on bail,” she added.
Maliwal further questioned, “How can we expect respect for our sisters and daughters from those who find solace in seeing such people? God is watching everything, justice will be done.”

Delhi chief minister close aide, Bibhav Kumar, is accused of assaulting Maliwal at the chief minister’s residence on May 13.
The Supreme Court granted Kumar bail on Monday, considering the completion of the police investigation and the filing of a chargesheet. The court also took into account the potential lengthy trial process, as there are over 51 witnesses to be examined.
As part of the bail conditions, the Supreme Court prohibited Kumar from returning to his official duties or entering the chief minister’s residence to prevent any interference with the ongoing investigation.
During Kumar’s custody, authorities seized his devices and even transported him to Mumbai twice to recover allegedly erased data. However, both the trial court and the high court had previously denied Kumar’s bail pleas.
