Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz appears to have not appealed to the voter as hoped for. The endorsement had a mixed impact on voters, with many seemingly unfazed by the pop star’s political stance. After all, it’s not ‘All Too Well.’
According to a YouGov poll released on Saturday, only 8 per cent of voters said the pop icon’s endorsement made them “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote for the Democratic candidates, whereas 20 per cent said her endorsement actually made them “somewhat” or “much less likely” to do so, as reported by New York Post.
A staggering 66 per cent reported that the ‘Reputation’ singer’s endorsement had no influence on their voting decision ahead of November’s election.
Despite the mixed reactions, the Grammy-winning artist shared in an Instagram post with her 283 million followers.
“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice,” she said in her post, encouraging fans to do their own research and make an informed decision.
She described Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” capable of leading the country with “calm and not chaos.” She encouraged others to do their own research before casting a vote.
The poll also reflected divided opinions on whether Swift should voice her political views.
41 per cent of respondents said the singer should avoid speaking publicly about politics, while 38 per cent supported her right to endorse candidates.
66 per cent of the poll’s participants said they are not Swifties, while 28 per cent reported being a fan and 6% identified as a big fan, the majority were women and registered Democrats.
Although her endorsement may not have shifted many votes, it did lead to a significant increase in voter registration, as per a spokesperson. A custom link shared on her Instagram profile reportedly drove over 337,000 visitors to the official voter registration site, vote.gov, by Wednesday afternoon.
Despite the mixed reactions to the ‘Shake it Off’ singer’s political involvement, the poll showed that 46 per cent of respondents believed Harris won the debate against former President Donald Trump, with 19% favouring Trump. However, only 6 per cent of voters said the debate influenced them to reconsider their vote, while 76 per cent reported it had no effect.
