NEW DELHI: Amul filed a complaint with the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police Station against false claims circulating on social media, alleging that the company supplied the ghee used in the Tirupati temple’s prasadam laddoos. The complaint was lodged after several social media posts falsely claimed that the ghee used in the laddoos contained animal fat and that it was supplied by Amul.
“Yesterday, we received a complaint from Amul employees and an FIR has been registered,” said DCP Cyber Crime Ahmedabad, Lavina Sinha.”As per the employee, people using fake social media accounts have spread false information that the ghee used in Tirupati prasadam contains animal fat and Amul supplies that ghee to the temple.”

Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), Jayen Mehta, also confirmed the FIR against the “misinformation campaign” during an interview with ANI. He stated, “In Andhra Pradesh, the ghee used in the Tirupati temple was found with adulteration. Some people tried to propagate false information by saying that ghee to TTD was supplied by Amul.”
To counter these allegations, Mehta said, “Amul has never supplied its product to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).” He emphasised that Amul ghee undergoes stringent quality checks and is made from pure milk fat. “We urge people to stay away from such kind of disinformation,” he added.
Amul also issued an official statement on social media, clarifying that it had never supplied ghee to the TTD. “We wish to inform that we have never supplied Amul Ghee to TTD,” the company posted, stressing that their ghee is made from high-quality pure milk fat at ISO-certified facilities.
The controversy erupted after Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the preparation of the sacred Tirupati laddoos during the previous YSRCP government. The former chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy responded, accusing the TDP of “politicising religious matters.”
Union health minister JP Nadda has also been involved, seeking a full report from chief minister Naidu and assuring that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
Reacting to the Tirupati laddoo issue, former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the TDP is “politicising religious matters.”
“The tender process occurs every six months, and the qualification criteria have not changed for decades. Suppliers must provide an NABL certificate and a product quality certificate. The TTD collects samples of the ghee, and only products that pass certification are used. The TDP is politicising religious matters. In our regime, we have rejected products 18 times,” Reddy said.
As the row escalates, YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced plans to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, accusing Naidu of distorting the facts.
