After all, who was Majrooh Sultanpuri?

Mohammad Shahir Khan, nephew of Majrooh Sultanpuri, told in a conversation with Local 18 that Majrooh Saheb’s real name was Asrar ul Hasan Khan, but the whole world knows him as Majrooh Sultanpuri. He was originally from Ganjhadi, a small village in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He also studied in Unani medicine, but the poetry and lions felt so much that he left the medical field.

Have written many songs
Perhaps this is why Bollywood filmmaker AR Kardar gave him a chance to become a lyricist in films. In 1946, he made his debut with the film Shah Jahan, after which he wrote songs of many superhit films like ‘Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander’, ‘Pahil Nasha’. Majrooh Sultanpuri wrote more than 2000 songs in around 350 films, due to which he also received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1993.

Died on 24 May 2000

He died in Mumbai on 24 May 2000. When the local 18 team went to their ancestral village, it was found that their close people still live there, one of whom is Abdul Vadud Khan. According to him, people of Majrooh’s family come here from time to time. The villagers also feel proud to take the name of Majrooh Saheb.

In his memory…
Many structures have been created in Sultanpur in memory of Majrooh. There is a school named after him in the village of Gangahi, which he himself laid. Also, there is also a gate in the middle of the road. The villagers want the memories of Majrooh always be alive.
