New Delhi, December 11
The Delhi Police has arrested 540 brokers involved in defrauding passengers outside the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport this year. Officials gave this information today.
According to the data provided by the police, the number of arrests this year is more than double compared to last year. Last year 264 arrests were made.
DCP (IGI) Usha Rangnani said, “The accused forced or misled the passengers to use unauthorized services like taxi, accommodation or shopping. Such activities not only damage the reputation of the airport and the country but also endanger the safety of passengers.”
He also said that the police has seized 254 vehicles used in these crimes, while the number was 96 in 2023. Rangnani said that 373 of the people arrested on charges of brokering are from Delhi while others are from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. -News-Patiala
