Senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema accused of conspiring to prevent Akali Dal from contesting in the Gurdwara Committee elections in Haryana. He condemned this conspiracy and announced that the party will fight a legal battle against this injustice.

Talking to reporters here, the Akali leader said that the Haryana government has issued a new notification banning all parties registered with the Election Commission of India from contesting these elections under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act. The notification states that no such party can form a group to contest the election, nor can it apply for an election symbol.

Terming this notification illegal and unconstitutional, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that earlier also the Delhi government had tried to stop the Shiromani Akali Dal from contesting the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections by issuing a similar notification, but the party approached the High Court and the court said that it is a religion. is an absolute right which cannot be taken away.

Dr. Cheema appealed to the Haryana Gurdwara Commission to withdraw the notification and if it is not done, they will approach the courts as it is an attack on democratic rights. He told how the Haryana government first brought an act to dissolve the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and handed over the management of Gurdwara Sahibs in Haryana to the committee formed by it. This Act was also brought when the Gurdwara Act 1925 was still in force. Despite taking such illegal steps, the Haryana government still fears the Akali Dal and is trying to keep the Akali Dal away from the elections.
