In Patiala today, a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) and his associate have been arrested red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 14,000. This action was taken by Punjab Vigilance Bureau.

The Bureau said that the accused have been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Patiala city, who is working as Wasika Navis in District Administrative Complex, Patiala. The complainant said that the Motor Vehicle Inspector, through his personal agent Anil, was demanding bribe in exchange for issuing the approval certificate for the fitness of the vehicle and passing the driving license test.
The Bureau said that after investigating the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap, in which the accused Gurmeet Singh and his personal agent Anil were caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 14,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. The bribe amount was also recovered.
He said that a case has been registered against both the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Patiala Range and further investigation is going on.
