Today was the last day to file nomination papers for 15 wards of local municipal council elections and 68 candidates have filed nomination papers so far. Election Officer BDPO Rupinder Kaur and Naib Tehsildar Dalwinder Singh said that 68 persons including various political parties and independent candidates have filed their nomination papers. The election officer said that there are a total of 18583 voters in 15 wards of Machiwara. He said that the documents will be checked on December 13 and the nomination papers will be withdrawn on December 14. After this, the list of candidates will be released at 4 pm.
Akali-BJP alliance almost fixed
The previous elections of Municipal Council Machiwara Sahib were fought by Akali BJP alliance and according to the latest circumstances, it is almost certain that there will be an alliance of Akali BJP in Machiwara Sahib, which has been confirmed by Paramjit Singh Dhillon, Chief Sevadar of Samrala Constituency. He said that the candidates of Shiromani Akali Dal have filed their nomination papers in 11 out of 15 wards while 4 wards have been left vacant. On the other hand, BJP has filed letters in 7 out of 15 wards and left 8 wards vacant. Mr. Dhillon said that the talks with the BJP regarding the alliance are going on. BJP district president Bhupinder Singh Cheema did not accept the alliance with Akali Dal but he said that in the remaining 8 wards a party with similar ideology can be supported.
Three migrant laborers also arrived in North Maidan
Ward No. 8 of Machiwara Municipal Council, which has a majority of migrant workers in Balibeg Basti area, has 1140 voters, 90 percent of whom are migrant workers. Last time also the migrant workers were the councilors here and this time also ‘AAP’, BJP, Congress and Akali Dal have fielded only the migrant workers.
