Indian Grandmaster D. A day after Gukesh won the world chess title, FIDE (International Chess Federation) President Arkady Dvorkovich presented him with the trophy during the closing ceremony.
The 18-year-old Gukesh of Chennai registered a historic victory yesterday by defeating the former champion Ding Liren of China. With this, he has also won a prize money of 1.3 million US dollars (approximately Rs. 11.03 crore).
Meanwhile, Gukesh said that the journey of becoming a world champion has been no less than a dream for him. He said, ‘It feels like I’ve lived this moment a million times. Every morning I woke up for this moment.’ Before this he met his fans.
Meanwhile, the young man said that he did not sleep throughout the night. He said, ‘This trip has been no less than a dream. It has had many ups and downs, many challenges but I don’t want to change any of it because the journey has been beautiful because of the people who have been with me.’ He thanked his parents, the team, the host country, the new fans he met in the last three weeks and God. -News-Patiala
