Punjab Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar today arrested a fugitive private contractor in a corruption case. The name of the accused is Vikas Khanna. According to the information, the accused had several times sold the goods in Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) at a rate much lower than the fixed price.

The Bureau said that during the investigation, the Vigilance Bureau came to know that the accused contractor, in connivance with the then Chairman of Amritsar Improvement Trust, got a 200 square yard plot allotted in his name at a price much lower than the market rate, causing huge loss to the government exchequer.

The accused fraudulently registered his firm in the trust and obtained government tenders by violating the prescribed terms and conditions. Apart from this, the accused also fraudulently got a Verka milk booth approved in his name.

Trial court declared him a fugitive The Bureau further informed that on the basis of this investigation, a case was registered under Sections 409, 201, 120-B, 13(2) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on FIR dated 6 July 2022 in Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Amritsar Range. This accused was a fugitive and was declared a fugitive by the trial court.

Vigilance Bureau teams conducted several raids to nab the accused, due to which he was forced to surrender. The accused has been arrested from Central Jail Amritsar on a production warrant. One day’s remand has also been taken from the court for further investigation into all aspects of this case.
