Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to the Gulf country on Saturday to further strengthen multilateral relations between India and Kuwait. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in four decades.

The External Affairs Ministry said that Modi is visiting at the invitation of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. During the visit, Modi will hold discussions with the leaders of Kuwait and also interact with the Indian community living there.

“India and Kuwait have traditionally had close and friendly relations since historical times,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. India is one of Kuwait’s top trading partners and the Indian community is the largest expatriate in Kuwait.
