A married woman from Mohali, who got married through Kharar Shaadi.com, has filed a police complaint against her husband and in-laws, accusing them of cheating, dowry harassment, assault and death threats. On which FIR has been registered late last night.

The victim alleged that her husband described himself as a big businessman before marriage, but after marriage he turned out to be a drug addict. Moreover, the husband embezzled the money by taking loans in her name and harassed her demanding dowry.
50 lakh wedding, in-laws grabbed everything The victim told that on 26 November 2022, she got married to Gurpreet Singh, resident of Nanaksar Road, Bhadaud (Barnala) in Mohali as per Sikh customs. The father spent Rs 50 lakh on the marriage beyond his means and gave every small and big item in dowry. But the in-laws took all the dowry items into their possession and did not even allow her to use them.
Before marriage, Gurpreet had described himself as a big businessman and said that he had many trucks. After marriage it was found out that he was a drug addict. After marriage, the husband took a loan in the name of the victim and embezzled the entire amount. After this, the husband made the victim lose her job and put her in financial trouble.
The victim alleged that her brother-in-law kept an evil eye on her and tried to molest her several times. When she told this to her mother-in-law and husband, she was blamed and abused.
The matter could not be resolved even at the Panchayat level The victim said that her in-laws, luring her with her father’s retirement benefits and her brother’s foreign earnings, continuously demanded dowry. When dowry was not received, she was beaten badly. Somehow he saved his life by coming to his maternal home in July 2023.
To prove themselves innocent, the in-laws filed a false complaint in the women’s police station, so that under mental pressure the victim would compromise in their favor. On the complaint of the victim, the police have registered a case against her husband Gurpreet Singh under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 498A (dowry harassment).
