If this was the case with Atal ji, how would BJP feel: Sidhu

New Delhi, 28 December

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has accused the ruling party of ‘playing politics’ by surrounding the BJP over the issue of a memorial site for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Sidhu said that if Atal Bihari Vajpayee had not got a memorial at Rajghat, then how would the party (BJP) have felt. Sidhu said that this is not an issue of any one party but of the history of the entire country. Talking to reporters, the Congress leader said, “When a person dies, all hostilities end with that… But politics is being played here.”

Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Pratap Singh Bajwa said, “This is not an issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government should have thought about this first. The whole country wanted him to be cremated at the place where his memorial is to be built. This demand is not only from Congress, Punjab and the Sikh community, but from all Indians. Sanjay Singh of ‘AAP’ said that it is very unfortunate that the leaders are having to discuss this issue. Singh questioned the government to give the name of any former prime minister whose last rites were not performed at Rajghat but at Nigambodh Ghat. – ANI
