It has continued to rain in Delhi since yesterday and this rain has broken century records. Since 1997, December has seen the most rainfall. Apart from this, the highest rainfall in 24 hours has been recorded since the year 1923. It has rained a lot in December this year in Delhi. The India Meteorological Department said that in 101 years, Delhi had never received so much rain in a single day in December in the 24 hours between Friday and Saturday. The city received 41.2 mm of rain between 8.30 am on Friday and 8.30 am on Saturday. This is Delhi’s heaviest 24-hour rainfall in December since 1923, when 75.7 mm was recorded on 3 December. December this year has also seen the highest rainfall since 1997 when 71.8 mm of rain fell in the month of December. This rain is due to coordination of active Western Disturbance and cyclonic circulation over North and Central India. Usually there is light rain in December but this time it has rained heavily. According to IMD data, Delhi usually receives 8 mm of rain during more than half of the month. In the last 24 hours, the city has received five times the amount of rain.
November and December are the two driest months of Delhi. During these months there are usually only outbreaks. Meteorological department officials said that there is a possibility of another western disturbance around January 1, but there will be no rain during these days. The minimum temperature was recorded at 12.7 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung weather station in the morning. It was 5.9 degrees above normal.
Delhi residents got relief from pollution due to heavy rain
This rain has removed the plume of smog from the skies of Delhi-NCR, giving some relief to the people and after the pollution subsided, the restrictions of Phase 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan were lifted from the Delhi-NCR region on December 27. The decision was taken when the air quality improved due to heavy rains in the NCR region. This has improved the level of air pollution in Delhi. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 371 on Friday, which improved to 179 at 8 am today (December 28). The Commission for Air Quality Management has decided to lift the restrictions based on forecasts from the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Meteorological Institute. Phase 3 restrictions were in force in Delhi-NCR from December 16.
Farmers are advised to do up to 10 successive sowings
