1. Former US President Jimmy Carter passes away: Former US President Jimmy Carter died late on December 29 in Georgia. He was 100 years old.
Born on October 1, 1924, Carter was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
- He was suffering from melanoma disease. This is a type of skin cancer.
- After leaving the post of President, he did humanitarian work through his organization ‘Carter Center’.
- For this he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

2. Kamya Karthikeyan Became the youngest mountaineer to scale the highest peaks of all 7 continents: 17 year old Kamya Karthikeyan from Mumbai has made a record by conquering the highest peaks of all 7 continents.
He met his father, Army Commander S. Along with Karthikeyan, he achieved this feat by conquering the Mount Vincent peak located in Chile in the Antarctica continent.
- Kamya has become the youngest mountaineer (women’s category) in the world to do so.
- The height of Mount Vincent is 4 thousand 892 meters i.e. 16 thousand 50 feet.
- The peaks conquered by Kamya are- 1. Mount Elbrus (Europe), 2. Mount Kosciuszko (Australia), 3. Mount Aconcagua (South America), 4. Mount Denali (North America), 5. Mount Everest (Asia) ) 6. Mount Vinson (Antarctica)
- Kamya is a 12th class student at Navy Children School, Mumbai.

3. Hampi becomes world women’s chess champion: On December 29, India’s Grand Master Koneru Humpy became the World Women’s Rapid Chess Champion and won the gold medal.

- Humpy has become the second player in the world to have captured this title twice.
- Earlier in 2019, she had also become the World Women’s Rapid Chess Champion in Georgia.
- Humpy became the youngest woman Grandmaster in 2002.
4. Hemant Muddappa becomes India National Motorcycle Drag Racing Champion: Mantra Racing’s Indian rider Hemant Muddappa won the National Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship 2024 on December 29.
The India National Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship 2024 was held at the Madras International Circuit located in Chennai.
- Hemant won the title of this racing championship for the third time.
- He has become the only athlete to win the 15th national title.
- He participated in 3 categories of this competition, out of which he won 2.
- Hemant is also famous by the name of ‘LightningR1’.
5. Lakshya Sen won bronze medal in King’s Cup: Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen won the bronze medal in the King’s Cup International Badminton Open 2024 on 29 December.
King’s Cup International Badminton Open 2024 was held in Bangkok, Thailand.
- Sen finished third by defeating French player Alex Lanier.
- He defeated Lanier of France 21-17, 21-11 to clinch this position.
- Earlier, he had lost to current world junior champion Hu Zhean of China 19-21, 19-21 in the semi-finals.
- Sen became the first Indian male shuttler to reach the semi-finals of the singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

7. 62 Vande Bharat trains started in the year 2024: There are 136 Vande Bharat trains running on different routes in the country, out of which 62 were started in 2024 alone.
The Railway Ministry gave this information in a statement on December 29.
- Indian Railways has electrified 3,210 km of rail track during 2024.
- With this, the broad gauge network of railway electrification has been expanded to 97%.
- 1,337 stations have been selected under the ongoing ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ for modernization of stations.
