Important decisions for the welfare of farmers by the central cabinet


New Delhi, January 1

The Union Cabinet on Economic Affairs under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken many important decisions for the farmers on the first day of the new year itself. The Center has decided to extend the one-time special package beyond December 31, 2024 to ensure supply of DAP fertilizer to farmers at cheaper rates. This will put a burden of Rs 3,850 crore on the exchequer, but the farmers will get a 50 kg bag of DAP for Rs 1,350 only. The government has extended two crop insurance schemes Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) till 2025-26. An amount of Rs 69,515.71 crore has been earmarked for the financial year 2025-26 for both these schemes. Similarly, a separate fund of Rs 824.77 crore has been created for the use of technology to implement important schemes. Referring to the above decisions taken by the Central Cabinet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the first decision of the government in the new year is dedicated to farmers. He said on ‘X’ that the central government under his leadership is fully committed to take forward the steps taken for the welfare of farmers. -News-Patiala
