Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has issued new guidelines regarding appointment, promotion and recruitment of VC (UGC Guidelines, Assistant Professor Eligibility) in universities and colleges. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has prepared a new draft for the post of Assistant Professor to implement the New Education Policy 2020. Accordingly qualifying NET will not be mandatory for ME and MTech candidates.
Candidates with ME i.e. Master of Engineering, M.Tech i.e. and Master of Technology degree with at least 55 percent marks for recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor will be directly employed (Assistant Professor Recruitment). Eligibility for UGC NET i.e. National Eligibility Test is being removed for them. Now the candidates will be considered eligible for the recruitment of Assistant Professor on the basis of PhD subject.
Assistant Professor Recruitment: New rules have been made for recruitment
Preparations are being made to allow candidates to teach on the basis of their superior academic expertise as per the new UGC guidelines. Candidates studying UG and PG from any subject can apply for professor recruitment based on PhD or NET subjects. Similarly, candidates who qualify NET in subjects other than UG, PG can teach the same subject in which they have qualified NET.
VC Recruitment: How will the recruitment of the Vice Chancellor be done?
According to the new UGC draft, 10 years of teaching experience will no longer be considered mandatory for appointment to the post of Vice Chancellor (Vice Chancellor Recruitment). Candidates with good track record of 10 years in any relevant field will be considered eligible for the recruitment of Vice Chancellor. Until now, a 10-year tenure as an academician was necessary to become a vice chancellor of a university.
For promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor, candidates must have a PhD degree. Without this no candidate will be promoted.
