The Indian women’s team has recorded a 175-18 victory against South Africa in the inaugural match of the Kho-Kho World Cup here today.
During the match played at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the host team stunned the opposition team with effective ‘dream runs’ and defensive strategy. Chaitra B, Miru and captain Priyanka Ingle played the role of India’s victory with continuous dream runs. With the help of this strategic opening, India neutralized the 10 touch points taken by South Korea after the first turn. Strong attacks from Nasreen Sheikh, Priyanka and Reshma Rathore kept India in control of the match. In just 90 seconds, India registered three ‘all out’ victories against the defenders, taking the score to 24. 18 seconds later the ‘Women in Blue’ put South Korea all out for the fourth time, increasing the score by 22 points. Reshma recorded 6 touch points while Menu earned 12 points for his brilliant play. After the end of the second turn, the score line was 94-10. In the third turn, India scored three points through ‘Dream Run’. South Korea could score only eight points in the second innings of the third round. In the final turn, India maintained its grip on the match and did not give any chance to the opposition team.
