As soon as the Makar Sankranti holidays are over, orders to open schools have also started coming. In most states, including the national capital Delhi, schools remain closed from 1 to 15 January 2025. Accordingly, schools will now open tomorrow i.e. from January 16. Schools in Ghaziabad, adjacent to Delhi, have been ordered to remain closed till January 18, 2025. However, in view of cold, cold wave and fog, winter holidays may be extended in other districts of UP as well.
The Delhi government had announced winter vacation from 1 to 15 January 2025 in all government schools (winter vacation extended). Winter vacations have also been extended in schools in Delhi’s neighboring states Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh. In all states where schools were scheduled to open on January 6, 2025, winter vacation was extended and schools were closed until January 15 (school vacation). But schools will open from tomorrow in most states.

Fog and cold weather is expected to continue in Delhi for the next few days. The vacations of students of class I to VIII in all government and private schools in Delhi are about to end. Classes for students from 9th to 12th had already started in many schools in Delhi. In many schools, the syllabus was also being completed through online classes. But now almost all schools will open from 16 January 2025. If the holidays are extended for any reason, schools will open directly from January 20.
Tamil Nadu Schools Closed: Schools will open next week in Tamil Nadu
Pongal is one of the major festivals of Tamil Nadu. As North India has a long holiday on festivals like Holi, Diwali and Chhath, Tamil Nadu has a long holiday on the occasion of Pongal. Many schools, colleges and government offices in Tamil Nadu have declared a holiday till January 20, 2024. Also, most of the private schools and colleges have opened from today. The Telangana Education Board had announced holidays from 11 to 16 January 2025.
UP Schools Reopening: Where have schools reopened in Rajasthan and UP?
Schools located in Jaipur, Dausa, Sikar, Bundi, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Dholpur etc. districts of Rajasthan were closed till January 14. Most of the schools in the state will open from today i.e. 15th January 2025 (Rajasthan School Holidays). For them, school timings will remain at 10 am for now. In Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, all government, Anganwadi and private educational institutions have been ordered to open from January 15, 2025. However, in view of the cold wave, the holidays may be extended further.
Bihar Schools Closed: Schools open in Patna, extended holidays in Ghaziabad
All schools, Anganwadi centers and pre-schools in Patna, the capital of Bihar, were declared holiday till January 15, 2025. Also, classes from 8th to 12th are being conducted from 9 am to 3.30 pm. In view of the cold wave in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, the winter vacations from 1st to 8th have been extended till 18 January 2025. This order is applicable to all boards including UP Board, CBSE Board, ICSE. However, schools are open for teachers and other staff.
UP School Closed: Schools will open tomorrow in Bareilly, Ballia and Etah
Schools in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia, Bareilly and Etah districts will open from January 16. Due to the cold in these districts, the holidays in the schools from class I to VIII were extended till January 15.
UP School Closed:: Extended holidays in Sambhal and Hamirpur
In view of the cold weather in Hamirpur and Sambhal districts of Uttar Pradesh, the district education officer has extended the school holidays till January 16. Schools here will open on January 17.
