Mumbai, January 21

Indian benchmark indices were almost flat on Tuesday morning after Donald Trump took office. Trump’s trade tariffs did not take effect immediately, as widely expected. The Nifty 50 index gained 0.25 per cent, while the 30-stock BSE Sensex gained only 0.09 per cent. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty rose 0.33 percent to 23,421. Trump 2.0 has started without much clarity on his likely economic decisions, according to market watchers. In his inaugural speech he was clear on immigration but vague on tariffs. In which a possible 25 percent tariff on Canada and Mexico was indicated. IANS
