US president donald trump sign over order to get exit from UNHRC UNRWA funding review

Donald Trump On UNHRC And UNRWA: Taking an important step, US President Donald Trump has ordered the US to be excluded from the Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and Palestinians, the Chief United Nations Relief Agency (UNRWA). Also, he has directed to review the partnership of America in other United Nations organizations, such as UNESCO.

Trump said that the United Nations is not running properly, but he also admitted that this global organization has tremendous ability. He also claimed that the assistance provided by the US was more than in other countries, so he called for equal funding from all countries.

Funding inequalities became reason
White House Staff Secretary Will Sarf said that the step is against anti -US bias in United Nations agencies. “Typically, the executive order calls for a review of funding inequalities and American partnerships between various countries,” Sarf said.

UNRWA and American funding dispute
UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) is the primary aid agency for Palestinian refugees, especially for displaced people in Gaza. The Trump administration had earlier also cut funding for UNRWA and questioned its effectiveness.

In 2023, the US suspended an annual funding of $ 300–400 million, when Israel alleged that some UNRWA employees were involved in Hamas terror attacks. However, neutrality-related issues were found in the investigation, but no evidence of Israel’s allegations was found. Trump had strongly criticized UNRWA under pro -Israeli policies even during the first term.

Decisions taken during Trump’s first term
Trump cut the funding of UNRWA in his first term (2017-2021) and lifted America from the Human Rights Council (UNHRC). He took this decision against Israel, citing “old bias” and demanded reforms in the United Nations.

Participation in United Nations Organizations
With this executive order of Donald Trump, America’s attitude towards participation in United Nations Organizations is clear. The step has been taken on the basis of anti -US bias and pro -Israeli policies, which can have a profound impact on relations between the US and the United Nations. Now it has to be seen what effect this decision has on the global platform and how other countries react.
