Powerbank Ban in Flights: Power bank has been used for a long time. It helps people in charging mobiles during the journey. But nowadays many airlines are imposing strict restrictions on power banks on flight. There was a time when these small battery packs were considered necessary to charge the phone during the journey, but now they are considered dangerous in terms of security.
Lithium-ion battery is danger root
According to the information, power banks have lithium-ion batteries which can catch or burst if they are overdose. This incident is called ‘thermal runaway’ which can be caused by battery malfunction or wrongly use. Along with this, there is low pressure and limited ventilation in the cabin of the plane while flying in the air, which increases the risk of battery failure manifold.
Accidents have happened
Recently, there were incidents of smoke and fire from the power bank in some flights. In some cases the flight had to land in emergency. This made the airlines and administration alert. Since such incidents, many airlines have started banning the power bank on the flight.
New rules of IATA
The International Aviation Union (IATA) has issued new security guidelines regarding power banks. It states that it is safe to take power banks up to which capacity. Now most airlines allow only the power bank to be taken to hand baggage. It is strictly prohibited to keep them in a check-in bag. Some airlines such as Qantas, Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific have completely banned the use or charging of power banks during the flight.
Battery capacity limit fixed
Apart from this, the limit of power bank’s battery capacity has also been fixed. In this, power banks of less than 100Wh capacity can be taken without any permission. At the same time, permission from airlines is required for power banks from 100Wh to 160WH. But power banks with more than 160Wh capacity are completely banned. If the power bank is not written (WH), then it can be confiscated during the security check.
Charge before flight
There is no need to use the power bank on the plane, it is better that you charge your device in advance or charge it with the use of charging stations at the airport. Things like power banks are small but can cause inadvertent threat to inadvertently. Therefore, before the flight, definitely read the airlines guidelines and follow them.
