Professor Anant Chandrakasan has been appointed as the new provost of MIT. This is the first time an Indian-American has got this post.

Born in Tamil Nadu, India, Chandrakasan Mit has the Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer and Dean of Engineering. From July 1, he will take over MIT as a provost.

Mit joined in 1994

In 1994, Anant Chandrakasan joined Mit’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECs). Between 2006 and 2011, he was the director of Microsystems Technology Laboratories of MIT and was followed by Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECs) heads from 2011 to 2017.

While being the head of EECS, Chandrakasan started a research program called Super Urop. This is a program running throughout the year for students doing research.

Started the Rising Stars program for women scholars. Apart from this, started Startmit. Through this, students are told about entrepreneurship.

School of Engineering Dean in 2017

In the year 2017, Anant Chandrakasan was made the dean of MIT’s School of Engineering Department. He is also the head of MIT’s energy efficient circuits and Systems Group.

Projects like Ultra-Lo Power Biomedical devices, Energy Efficient Processors, Wireless Authentication Tags are worked here.

He has been elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in the year 2015 to promote similar experiments and research.
