DRDO-IIT Delhi: India has taken a big and historical step in the field of quantum technology. Scientists from Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and IIT Delhi have successfully tested free-space secure communication based on quantum entryment. The test was conducted at the DRDO-Industry-Cedmiya Center of Excellence (Dia-COE) located in the IIT Delhi campus and it was installed quantum communication for more than a kilometer.
Cyber security will help in
This state-of-the-art system recorded a secure rate of about 240 bit per second through free-space optical link, in which the quantum bit error rate was less than 7%. This achievement not only gives India a new direction in the field of cyber security but also lays the foundation of Long distance quantum distribution (QKD), Quantum Network and future quantum internet.
What is the name of the project
The name of this project is & lsquo; design and development of photonic techniques for free-space Qkd & rsquo; Which has been approved by DRDO’s Futuristic Technology Management Directorate (DFTM). The demonstration was led by the team of IIT Delhi Professor Bhaskar Conserry, which was seen by senior officials of DRDO, DG (MED, COS & amp; CS), SAG and DFTM Director and Senior Professors of IIT."text-align: justify;"> While traditional QKD systems depend on hardware, the quantum entanglement -based system provides better security. If someone tries to intercept the data in the middle, the quantum state immediately changes, which reveals the danger. Apart from this, this technique also eliminates the need to lay expensive and complex optical fiber networks, which can also be easily implemented in remote or congested areas.
The first intercity quantum link is installed
Earlier too, India had established the country’s first intercity quantum link between Vindhyachal and Prayagraj in 2022 and in 2024 a successful test of 100 km fiber-based QKD was successfully tested. All these initiatives have been taken under DRDO’s Dia-COE network, which are now working in 15 top educational institutions in the country. While congratulating the team on this achievement, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, & ldquo; India has now entered a new era of Quantum Secure Communication, which will change the picture of future war. & Rdquo;
