Whatsapp: In America, new concern about WhatsApp has now come to light. The US Parliament ‘House of Representatives’ has issued an order to remove WhatsApp from all government devices due to security reasons. It has been reported that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the data privacy and cybercharity. Information about this decision was given to all the employees of Parliament through an official memo on Monday.
The Cybercharity Office, which works under the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the House, has warned that WhatsApp user does not take transparency for data safety and has many security flaws. Because of this it is considered a “high -risk app”.
WhatsApp will also have to be removed from mobile and desktop
CAO has instructed that WhatsApp should be completely removed from not only mobile, but also from desktop and web browsers. It was also said that the devices in which WhatsApp will be found will be removed and removed. As an alternative, employees have been advised to use secure apps like signal, Microsoft teams, wicker, apple iMessage and facetime. At the same time, he has been asked to be cautious with messages and fishing attachments coming from unknown numbers.
However, WhatsApp parent company Mata has strongly opposed this decision. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said that WhatsApp has an end-to-end encryption as a default, so that only those who send and get messages can read and not WhatsApp themselves.
He also claimed that most of the list of approved apps of CAO is not a security feature. Meta hoped that in future, members of the US Parliament would be able to use WhatsApp, as it is happening in the Senate.
Iran has also ordered to remove
Significantly, in January it was revealed that the Israeli spyware company ‘Paragon Solutions’ targeted many journalists and civil rights activists through WhatsApp. Due to this, questions have already been raised about the safety of the app.
Apart from this, recently Iran also advised its citizens to delete WhatsApp. It was alleged that sensitive information like location is being leaked through the app which can reach the Israeli army. However, Meta had completely rejected these allegations.
In this way, both the US and Iran have taken steps at their respective levels, considering WhatsApp as suspicious in terms of security, which has once again intensified the debate about the privacy of the app.
