But the incident of the recently revealed 16 billion password leaks has put everyone in worry. In such a situation, there is a need to be cautious not to panic. Very few people know that Google has a special tool that monitors the safety of your password and warns immediately when leaked. The name of this tool is Google Password Checkup.
What is Google Password Checkup?
Just as a doctor checkup your body, this tool “checkup” the regular “checkup” of your saved passwords and checks whether your passwords are not included in any data breech or leaks. If a password is leaked, this tool immediately sends you the alert so that you can change the password in time.
When does this tool work?
The thing to note is that this feature will work only when you have saved your password in Google Password Manager. If your essential passwords are stored in Google, this tool tracks them and informs you immediately in case of any danger.
How to save passwords in Google Password Manager?
- Open Google Chrome browser in your laptop or computer.
- Click on the three dots (⋮) given above.
- Now go to “Passwords and Autofill” or “Password Manager” option.
- Here you will see options like passwords, checkup, and settings in the left side.
- To save the password, go to passwords and tap on add.
- If passwords are already saved, you can tap on Checkup.
What information will this checkup give?
In Compromised Passwords section you will be able to see if a password has been leaked or not. This tool will also tell which app you have used weak password. Also, it will also show you how many different accounts you have repeated in the same password.
How to check on mobile?
If you save the password in the phone, then you can go to Settings> Google> Autofill With Google> Password Manager and see if your password is not leaked or a weak password has been set.
