Whatsapp on Windows: WhatsApp has made a major change for the Windows platform for the favorite instant messaging app of billions of users worldwide. Now WhatsApp has launched the web-based version of its Windows app which is currently available on Microsoft Store as beta version. This update will especially affect users who are using the beta version.

WhatsApp will soon use WebView2 (Microsoft Edge-based, which is based on Chromium) to render chats and other features on Windows 11.

In the new beta update, users will be logged out from their old WhatsApp account and they will have to link the account again. After the setup, the interface of WhatsApp on Windows will not be the same desktop app as before, but now it will look completely like WhatsApp Web.
New experience with Microsoft Edge WebView22
The new app is based on Microsoft Edge WebView2 technology which means it will act like a web browser inside the app. Although it will get all the WhatsApp features like channels, status and communities, but according to reports, it can use more system resources than the old app.
Part of Meta’s new strategy
Meta has already downed its Messenger app on Windows and now WhatsApp has also been brought on the same path. Both these apps are now being given a web version -like behavior on the desktop which is a sign of the new strategy of Meta.

To run this new WhatsApp beta version properly, it is necessary to install the latest microsoft edge in your system. The new interface no longer shows Windows design elements and its experience will look like a browser like Whatsapp Web. This beta version is currently available for beta testers but it is expected that its full rollout will start soon.
It is not yet clear whether the same change will be applicable on macbooks or not, but experts believe that this feature can be included in Macos soon. Along with this, WhatsApp has also launched a new split-screen interface app for iPad users, which makes the use on tablets easier.
