The “He-Man” of Bollywood, Dharmendra, has always been known for his simple lifestyle, desi food and fit lifestyle. The way he naturally maintained his health till his last years is a valuable lesson for today’s generation. Dharmendra was not only very modest in his eating habits, but spent most of his time in his farmhouse instead of his lavish home in Mumbai. It was a place where they lived surrounded by nature, connected to the soil, and grew organic vegetables.

Dharmendra loved the natural air, the smell of the soil and the rural lifestyle of his farmhouse. He used to grow tomatoes, pumpkins, okra and especially tinda (tinda) himself here. Farming, taking care of cows and buffaloes and maintaining the greenery of their garden were an integral part of their daily routine. They believed that the closer a person lives to nature, the healthier and happier he is. With this he started living in his own world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Dharmendra also took care of his pets with great devotion. Their diet in their farmhouse consisted entirely of fresh cow and buffalo milk, pure desi ghee and vegetables from the farm.

Vegetarian or non-vegetarian?
Many people often think that Dharmendra was a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian. While Dharmendra used to eat a mixed diet, his preferences always revolved around green vegetables. They were very fond of tinda (gourd) and believed that it was best for their health and energy. Dharmendra himself has repeatedly said that green vegetables keep the body light, active and disease-free. Their son, Sunny Deol, also said in an interview that the Deol family’s favorite vegetables are lauki and tinda. The entire family has grown up on them since childhood, and that’s why everyone stays fit, strong and active.

Dharmendra’s Fitness Routine
The reason he is still active at the age of 89 is his rigorous fitness routine. He used to ride a bicycle, and Dharmendra never missed this exercise. This kept his body active, his muscles strong and his joints flexible. He also loved swimming and did it whenever he got the chance. He considered swimming to be the best full-body exercise, strengthening the lungs, heart and muscles.
