Thyroid kapha dosha imbalance

Both Ayurveda and science recognize that thyroid is not just a disease that can be treated with medicine, but a problem related to the overall balance of the body. To maintain hormonal balance, it is very important to improve diet and habits. According to Ayurveda, thyroid problems are mainly associated with imbalance of Agni (digestive power) and Kapha dosha. When the digestive system is weak, toxins start to accumulate in the body, which disrupts the hormonal balance. Science also suggests that thyroid patients have a slower metabolism. Excessive consumption of certain foods can worsen the condition. Limiting sugar, caffeine and alcohol is especially important.

How to treat thyroid in Ayurveda

1. Cut back on sweets: Ayurveda considers excessive sweetness to be a phlegm-increasing factor. Consuming too much sugar can lead to weight gain, lethargy and rapid fat accumulation. Thyroid patients already have the problem of gaining weight, in which case sweets increase the problem manifold. Cutting back on sugar not only balances your thyroid but also lowers your risk of diabetes, obesity and heart disease. So, sugar is the first thing you should reduce.

2. Drink less caffeine: In Ayurveda, caffeine is considered a stimulant to the body, which in the long run fatigues the nervous system and glands. Scientific research suggests that caffeine can interfere with thyroid function and reduce the effectiveness of medications. Drinking coffee on an empty stomach in the morning can cause a sudden spike in hormonal levels, leading to restlessness and fatigue. Reducing coffee intake can help with thyroid problems as well as sleep, anxiety and blood pressure. So, stop drinking coffee.

3. Give up alcohol completely: Ayurveda describes alcohol as a poison, which weakens the digestive system. According to science, alcohol directly affects the liver. Our liver converts thyroid hormones into active hormones. When the liver is weakened by alcohol, this process cannot occur properly, leading to hormonal imbalances. Quitting alcohol improves thyroid as well as fatty liver, acidity and mental stress.

Homemade food essential

Ayurveda recommends a simple diet for thyroid relief. Home-cooked meals, regular meals, light exercise and adequate sleep help maintain hormonal balance. Science also believes that when the body is properly nourished and rested, it begins to heal itself.
