International seminar by IDPD – Punjabi News-Patiala

An International Seminar on ‘Health and Humanitarian Crisis in Ongoing Wars – Way Forward’ was organized by Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD). On this occasion, serious concern was expressed over the health and human crisis arising due to ongoing wars in different parts of the world. Associates of International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War, doctors from various states of India including Australia, Nepal and Sri Lanka participated in it. On the occasion, the speakers discussed the growing nuclear threat – a cause for concern, prospects for peace in the Middle East, ongoing wars and global implications and initiatives for peace. Senior journalist Qamar Agha, Major General (retd) Vinod Sehgal, retired professor from Delhi University Achin Wanaik and World Peace Council President Pallabh Sen Gupta were present as speakers on the occasion. Meanwhile, Dr. Ashoka Hettyarachi, President Sri Lankan Doctors for Peace and Development, Dr. Ganesh Gurung President Physicians for Social Responsibility Nepal, Dr. SS Sudan Patron IDPD, Dr. Arun Mitra President IDPD and Dr. Shakeel ur Rehman General Secretary IDPD also addressed. On this occasion, the chairperson of the board of IPPNW from Australia. Ruth Mitchell said Nobel laureates at a conference in Mexico in September 2024 expressed concern over the growing arms race. In such a case we have no medical treatment. During the discussion, a declaration was passed which expressed outrage at the failure of the international community to prevent attacks on health facilities and health workers. They demanded immediate steps to rebuild the infrastructure destroyed during the wars.
