Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer raised in the Lok Sabha the issue of building the Rajpura-Chandigarh rail link to connect the Malwa region to the state capital Chandigarh. Today, while taking part in the debate on a bill related to railways in the House, Meet Hayer said that railways is important for the general public.

Due to which the common man benefits. Even after 77 years of independence, the people of Malwa are not connected to the capital Chandigarh by rail. For which rail link is required only to connect Rajpura and Chandigarh. He said that the Central Government cites the land acquired.
He said that if land can be acquired for building roads then why not for government railway service. MP Meet Hayer further said that in case of stopping the concession given to senior citizens and sportspersons during the time of Covid, he demanded to start it again. He suggested that students should also be brought under the ambit of this concession.

He said that the promises of affordable air services made under the UDAN scheme were not fulfilled. Therefore, strengthening the government railway services will be a permanent and public welfare measure for the countrymen.
