Acting under a comprehensive action plan to improve waste management, the Municipal Corporation today launched a project costing over Rs 53 crore to dispose of around 700 metric tonnes of fresh waste generated in the city on a daily basis.

It may be mentioned that working under the guidance of Municipal Corporation Commissioner Aditya Dechalwal, bio-remediation of around 19.62 lakh metric tonnes of legacy and legacy waste at the Jamalpur main dump site of the Municipal Corporation on Tajpur Road and 2 lakh metric tonnes at the Jainpur site. Now this third big project has been started for the disposal of 700 metric tons of fresh waste generated daily in the city. On this occasion, Mr. Dechalwal said that 1100 metric tons of waste is generated in the city daily. The municipal corporation has already signed an agreement with a Chennai-based firm to convert 400 metric tonnes of waste into green charcoal. Now the corporation has launched a Rs 53 crore project to dispose of the remaining 700 metric tonnes of fresh waste.

The contract to treat 700 metric tonnes of waste has been allotted to Greentech Environment Management Private Limited for three years. The Municipal Corporation will provide 6 acres of land to the contractor at the Jamalpur dump site and the contractor will set up a waste disposal plant at the said site within two months. He said that heaps of garbage will be removed from the dump site and about 41 acres of municipal land will be freed after bio-remediation of the garbage. This site will be used for effective waste management in future. Dechalwal said that now projects worth about 130 crore rupees have been started to improve waste management in the city.

He further said that the municipal corporation is taking all necessary steps to improve waste management in the city, but this goal cannot be achieved without the active cooperation of the city residents. Dechalwal appealed to the city residents to segregate dry and wet household waste and hand it over to waste collectors and stop dumping waste on vacant plots in open spaces.
