Beirut, December 8
The 50-year rule of the Assad family finally came to an end today amid claims that rebels have entered the Syrian capital Damascus and President Bashar-al-Assad has fled the country.
The head of the anti-Syria war monitoring organization claimed that Assad has left the country and gone to an unknown location. Meanwhile, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Jalali issued a video statement saying that he is ready to hand over the reins of government to the opposition in a peaceful manner.
Jalali said, “I am staying at my residence and have not gone anywhere because I love my country.” He said he would go to his office to work in the morning. He has appealed to Syrian citizens not to damage public property. However, the Prime Minister did not react to the news of President Bashar-al Assad leaving the country.
Meanwhile, the prisoners locked in the jail have been released. On the other hand, Syrians were seen celebrating in the squares. Shots were also fired during the raid in some areas.
Rami Abdurrahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Assad flew from Damascus early today. Abdurrahman gave this information amid the announcement of Syrian rebels entering Damascus.
On the other hand, the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, has appealed for urgent talks in Geneva to ensure an orderly political change in Syria.
Meanwhile, the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, said that the United States should avoid military action in Syria. “This is not our war,” he said in a post on social media. America’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, while addressing a gathering in California, said, “The United States will not interfere in the internal war in Syria.” ” – Ap
