Big steps are being taken regarding security in Punjab University (PU). Now CCTV cameras will be installed on every floor of all PU hostels. The budget for this has been passed and the tender process will be completed soon. Earlier the cameras were only in the corridor of the hostel.

Till now 12 cameras had been installed in Hostel No. 3, out of which half were faulty. Recently 2 cameras have been repaired and 8 more cameras will be installed in the next 15 days. These cameras will be installed in areas where there is less traffic, such as block and bank sides. Moreover, the number of cameras is likely to increase further as the number of cameras will be increased after the tender call.

According to Dr. Sucha Singh, Warden of PU Hostel No. 3, high quality CCTV cameras with night vision will be installed. Apart from this, cameras will also be installed in the main block and parking area of ​​the hostel. This work will be done phase wise. At present, 32 cameras have been installed in girls’ hostel number-3.

Keeping safety in mind, P.U. Has started work on this scheme rapidly. A fund of Rs 58 lakh was kept for the installation of cameras in the session 2020-2021, and a budget of Rs 75 lakh has been set for the second phase in 2023. With these funds, high quality cameras with night vision will be installed, in which the estate branch will contribute. In the first phase, cameras have been installed in Sector-14 Gates and South Campus of PU.

PU’s Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Dr. Amit Chauhan said that this proposal has been prepared keeping in mind the safety of the students, in which the budget has also been increased to increase the number of cameras.
