Students blamed the administration New Delhi, 28 December A fire broke out in the Godavari hostel of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). However, according to the officials, there is no news of any loss during this accident. A video shared by the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) shows flames and smoke billowing from an electrical panel board. Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said that a fire broke out in an air-conditioning unit on Friday night. A DFS official said, “We received the information at 10:18 pm. It was a minor fire in the panel board. A fire brigade vehicle was sent to the spot and it took 15 minutes to douse the fire. JNU Chancellor Shantishri Dhulipudi Pandit said that the fire was brought under control immediately. He said, “I went to Godavari hostel in the morning. A short-circuit occurred on the third floor of the ‘West Wing’, in which the fire was quickly brought under control. ‘Wiremen’ and employees of the electricity department were present. The cause of the fire was said to be an overload situation due to the use of heaters by the students. There is no damage and the situation is under control.” JNUSU president Dhananjay in a post on X blamed poor security measures in the hostel for the incident. He said, “The JNU administration and the Chancellor have pushed the students of JNU to death.
