UIDAI SITAA: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a big technological innovation program named SITAA (Scheme for Innovation and Technology Association with Aadhaar). Its objective is to further strengthen the digital identity system in the country. Under this initiative, UIDAI will work with startups, educational institutions and industry to make the Aadhaar system more secure, faster and reliable.
Hi-tech system will be made to deal with deepfakes
Under the SITAA program, cutting-edge AI-based solutions will be developed that will leverage technologies such as real-time deepfake detection, face liveness detection, and contactless fingerprint authentication. UIDAI has invited innovation proposals for this, the last date of which has been fixed as 15 November 2025.
Partnership between MeitY Startup Hub and NASSCOM
To make this mission successful, UIDAI has joined hands with MeitY Startup Hub (MSH) and NASSCOM. MSH will provide mentorship, incubation and accelerator support to startups. NASSCOM will promote industry engagement and global collaboration. UIDAI says that SITAA is a big step towards a secure, self-reliant and inclusive digital identity system of India.
SITAA’s three main technical challenges
Face Liveness Detection
Startups are being encouraged to create software development kits (SDKs) that can quickly identify fraudulent attempts like deepfakes, masks or photo spoofing.
These solutions should be equally effective across different devices, demographics, and environments, and should be easily scalable on both server and mobile levels.
Presentation Attack Detection
This challenge is for research institutes to develop systems that can detect attacks like print, replay or morphing with the help of AI and machine learning. These technologies must maintain high accuracy, privacy compliance, and compatibility with Aadhaar APIs.
Contactless Fingerprint Authentication
UIDAI wants proposals that can enable touchless fingerprint recognition using smartphone cameras or low-cost sensors. This technology will not only ensure accurate identification, but also liveness detection and follow AFIS-standard templates.
New revolution in Aadhaar security
The SITAA program is part of UIDAI’s strategy under which futuristic technologies will be used to protect Aadhaar from threats like deepfakes and biometric fraud. The scheme also aligns with the vision of Digital Public Infrastructure and Self-reliant India, which is taking India towards making India a self-reliant and secure nation in digital identity technology.
