AAP has won again in the polls for Patiala Municipal Corporation. During the election, the opposition parties have also leveled serious allegations like rigging, bullying, encroachment of booths and beatings on the ruling party, but AAP has been assured of becoming the mayor of the municipal corporation. Elections in 7 out of 60 wards here were postponed due to court orders and AAP candidates have become councilors in 43 of the remaining 53. AAP has 46 members in the 63-member General House of Municipal Corporation Patiala. In the 53 wards of the corporation, the election has been held so far, four candidates each from Congress and BJP while two candidates from Akali Dal have won. Thus, out of 53 wards, only ten candidates of AAP have lost so far. It is to be noted that even in these seven wards, even though AAP’s candidates won unopposed, the High Court on December 20, a day before the polls, accused AAP activists of tearing up their nomination forms. had postponed the election of these seven wards. There are eight other wards where the papers of other candidates were either rejected or withdrawn by them. In Nagar Panchayat Bhadson, where five AAP candidates have won directly, three candidates who have won independently are also related to AAP, who have contested independently due to their displeasure. BJP has won 2 and Akali Dal in one ward from Bhadson. In this way, the 11-member Nagar Panchayat of Bhadson is also now held by AAP. AAP’s winning candidates for Bhadson include Rupinder Singh from Ward No. 1, Baljinder Kaur from Ward 4, Satwinder Kaur from Ward 8, Madhu Bala from Ward 10 and Satnam Singh from Ward 11. Among the independent candidates, Gurjoga Singh has won from ward number 3, Harshit from 7 and Nirmala Rani from 9. Similarly, BJP’s Kiran Gupta has won from ward number 2 and Amarjit Singh from 6. Akali candidate Prem Chand has won from ward number 5. The 13-member Nagar Panchayat Ghagga has also been captured by AAP with the victory of 8 members.
