Chandigarh, 26 December
The Municipal Corporation removed the temporary stage constructed by the Market Welfare Association of Chandigarh’s Sector 22-D in the public parking lot for the festival. This morning, the Municipal Corporation team took action on this temporary stage built in the parking lot.
According to the corporation, the Market Welfare Association was instructed to immediately remove the stage constructed for the display of cars in the parking lot here. He said that after this the new cars displayed on the stage were removed and the parking space was vacated. It may be mentioned that the Market Welfare Association Sector 22D (Jewellery Market) had approved the decoration of the market till January.
The association is alleged to have misused this permission to allegedly set up an illegal stage in the public parking lot here. Brand new cars were parked on this stage and it was used for commercial purposes such as promotions and draws. These cars are to be handed over to prospective customers who shop here in the market by drawing a draw in coupons. Public spaces can be used only for specified purposes as per the rules and conditions of the Municipal Corporation.
Using public parking for commercial purposes is a violation of the Municipal Corporation Act and Public Property Rules.
The municipal team has removed the new stage but the municipal corporation can fine the market association heavily under rules for illegal occupation of government space and commercial use of public parking.
