Advisory: Indian students and citizens in Canada are advised to be vigilant


New Delhi, December 13

After the killing of three Indian students in Canada last week, the Ministry of External Affairs has issued an advisory advising Indian citizens and students living in Canada to be more vigilant.

The ministry said that Indian citizens and students should be vigilant in view of the increasing security situation in Canada due to increasing incidents of hate crime and criminal violence. According to official data, more than four lakh Indian students are currently studying in Canada.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that after the killing of three Indian students in Canada last week, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa has raised the issue of security of Indians with the Canadian authorities.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that for them, the safety and welfare of Indian citizens in Canada is paramount. Jaiswal said, “Three unfortunate incidents happened last week. Three Indian students were murdered. We are saddened by this terrible tragedy when our citizens were targeted in Canada.”

The interpreter said, “We express our condolences to the families of the victims. Our High Commissions and Consulates in Toronto and Vancouver are providing all possible help in this matter.” Jaiswal said that the Indian Mission in Canada is in touch with the local authorities for a thorough investigation of these cases. -News-Patiala
