Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma’s visit to Australia has changed everything. Before the series, the star player was exempted from playing domestic matches but now the BCCI has made it clear that he will have to play in the Ranji Trophy no matter what. Rohit Sharma has informed the Mumbai team management that he will attend the Ranji Trophy practice session at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit Sharma has resumed his practice at the MCA-BKC ground to prepare for the Champions Trophy. The Mumbai team will use the centre-wicket practice session for their next Ranji Trophy League round. The Mumbai team has to play against Jammu and Kashmir at home. An MCA source said that Rohit has not yet said anything about playing in the Ranji match. They are still considering playing in it.
“He will join the practice sessions with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team and it is yet to be decided whether he will play the next Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir,” an MCA source said. They will inform the MCA when the time comes. Rohit Sharma last played a Ranji match for Mumbai in 2015 against Uttar Pradesh. His performance on the Australian tour was poor. He scored 3, 9, 10, 3, 6 runs in four Test matches in the series.
Rohit Sharma decided to keep himself out of the playing XI for the final Test against Australia in Sydney. After the defeat in Sydney, coach Gautam Gambhir had emphasized the players playing in Ranji and said “I always want everyone to play domestic cricket.” We should give equal importance to domestic cricket. Not just one match but everyone should play domestic cricket if they are available and have the commitment to play red ball cricket then they should. If you don’t value domestic cricket, you will never get the kind of players you need in Test cricket.
