New Delhi: Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma took revenge on Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf’s actions during the Super 4 match against India in the Asia Cup. Less than two days after Pakistan Cricket’s heinous activities regarding Operation Sindoor, a female cricketer has done something similar.
Pakistan women’s spinner Nashra Sandhu has suddenly become the talk of the town. His gesture while celebrating his special performance has grabbed headlines. The gesture he made reminded many of Hasir Rauf.
Playing against South Africa in Lahore, Sandhu took six wickets, becoming the fastest Pakistani woman to reach 100 wickets in ODI cricket. As part of his celebration, he held up six fingers, representing the number of wickets he had taken. She later shared the same photo on social media with a celebratory caption.
“Alhamdulillah, really happy to reach the milestone of 100 ODI wickets and get the player of the match award. I am grateful to my family, colleagues and support staff for their continuous support. Moving forward with gratitude and determination,” Sandhu posted on social media.
While many praised his performance, the gesture sparked controversy, drawing comparisons to Haris Rauf, who made the “6-0” and plane crash gestures against India in the Asia Cup Super 4 match a day earlier. Some fans noticed the similarities, which led to criticism online.
However, unlike Rauf’s actions, Sandhu’s gesture was clearly related to his six-wicket haul. He didn’t point it at an opposing player or team. The discussion comes at a time when several Pakistani players are under scrutiny for their on-field celebrations.
