Manila, December 10
After the eruption of the volcano in the central region of the Philippines, around 87 thousand people from different villages are being taken to safe places today. After the eruption, a large plume of gas and ash, along with debris and hot lava was seen flowing down the western slopes. The eruption of Mount Canlaon volcano on the central island of Negros caused no casualties, but a strong alert has been issued.
The Philippines’ chief volcanologist Teresito Baccolcol and other officials said volcanic ash fell into the ocean more than 200 kilometers to the west, including Antique province. The ash plume reduced visibility and posed a health hazard. At least six domestic flights and one flight to Singapore were canceled on Monday and Tuesday due to the eruption of the Canlaon volcano, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. Similarly, two local flights were diverted. The Civil Protection Office said immediate mass evacuations were being carried out from nearby towns and villages on the western and southern slopes of Canlaon. – Ap
